ACLS Prep Course

The ACLS Provider course requires essential knowledge in common ACLS drugs and their pharmacology, interpretation of EKG rhythms, and use of ACLS algorithms. The ACLS Prep course is designed to provide the fundamentals necessary for the core ACLS certification course. In the Prep course, students will receive detailed instruction on basic cardiac anatomy and electrophysiology, normal sinus rhythm, and baseline EKG parameters. Students will also learn how to use American Heart Association (AHA) algorithms for the adult victim of cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies. This section addresses arrhythmias including sinus bradycardia and tachycardia, supraventricular arrhythmias, ventricular arrhythmias, asystole and pulseless electrical activity (PEA), atrioventricular block, and atrial and ventricular pacing.

The pharmacology section of the course includes a discussion of priorities for drug administration, and provides an in-depth analysis of mechanisms, indications, contraindications, special considerations, warnings and side effects of the most common ACLS medications.

EKG section:

• Understand basic heart anatomy and physiology
• Recognize normal EKG measurements
• Understand and detect basic arrhythmias
• Use ACLS algorithms

Pharmacology section:

• Understand basic ACLS drugs, doses and routes of administration used during cardiovascular emergencies
• Know how to integrate drug pharmacology into ACLS algorithm

New or experienced nurses beginning specialization in cardiac procedures, student nurses, Emergency Room Technicians, Emergency Medical Technicians, paramedics, and other medical professionals who are seeking an introduction to Advanced Cardiac Life Saving Techniques.
